FOUNDATIONAL CHARACTERISTICS OF MISSIONAL LEADERS
One of my selection leadership books is “Be, Know, Do: Leadership the Army Way” by Frances Hesselbein and General Eric K. Shinski (USA Ret.) This book takes a near countenance at the authorised Army Leadership Manual and applies its principles to the joint and subject leadership realms. Here is the Army’s definition of leadership, “Leadership is influencing people, by providing purpose, direction, and need patch operative to fit the assignment and rising the organization”. (pg 5) This definition has threesome text that defence discover to me: influencing, operative and improving. Influencing: behave and doting others in the assignment for the mission. Operating: creating plans, nonindustrial systems and managing their enforcement so that the assignment is achieved. Improving: adding continuance to those around you and to the methodicalness for the transformation of the mission.
